When improving or updating your kitchen, how do you visualise the space that you have available? There are a number of ways in which this can be done – you can measure your kitchen and plan it out on paper, or you can use a planner – there are a number of websites offering this kind of thing.
All well and good – you get an idea of how you would like your kitchen to be laid out, but is it going to be workable for you and suitable for your home?
From the floor up, the kitchen needs to fit in with the lifestyle you lead. We are sold the vision of how the modern kitchen should be in order to fit in with the ‘norm’. Sleek, contemporary designs are all very well, but we don’t all have the budget these projects can sometimes command.
A new look for a kitchen can be created by just making a few small changes. For instance, you could change the doors on your cabinets to make your kitchen look more up to date. Or how about changing the kitchen worktops? Or Countertops as some people call them.
Everything we have in the kitchen is there to serve a purpose and of these, the worktop is the one thing that serves a multitude. So when considering making improvements to your kitchen, doesn’t the worktop best reflect our lifestyle and vision for our home?
With such a vast selection of kitchen worktops to choose from now which will suit any pocket, this is probably one of the more difficult choices we have. The more modern engineered stone surfaces, such as Silestone, Caesarstone and Zodiaq quartz offer a wide variety of options in terms of style and colour variation, whilst being practical at the same time. These surfaces give the ‘wow’ factor as well as being easy to maintain and hard wearing. The processes which are used in the manufacture of these surfaces ensure that whatever colour is selected, that colour is going to be the same throughout.
Then there are the natural stones, such as Granite, Marble and Limestone. With their natural changes in tone and pattern all are beautiful in their own way. Each have their pros and cons, but they would enhance any home.
Then there are wooden kitchen worktops, the trusty surface of old. Wood has a beauty of all its own, from the graining running through it to the colour – a truly beautiful natural material which would fit in any kitchen.
With such choices, it would be easy to loose sight of what you want for your home. But, when spoilt for choice, what is to stop you combining some of these surfaces to create different effects within the kitchen? For example, if your kitchen has a central island, where food is prepared or where you sit to eat informally, why not choose Silestone or Caesarstone and use Granite or even Marble on the other surfaces? You could have the best of both worlds and a kitchen which fits with the modern vision, whilst being practical as well.
