KITCHEN WORKTOPS and the right colour choice 

How many times have you been asked the question, if you were a colour what would you be?  Does your reply depend on how you are feeling at the time the question was asked?

 

So, how about asking yourself the same question when considering the rooms in your home?  Take, for instance, your living room, what colour would it be?  Do you imagine a cosy room where you would like to relax and shake off the cares of the day?  Will the colour, layout and furnishings within the room take on the visions which you have of how that room should be?

 

Now what about the kitchen? What colour would your kitchen be?  The kitchen is the heart of the home, a place people always seem to orbit to when there is something happening in there, be it guests when you are entertaining or family when you are preparing meals.  When planning improvements to a kitchen, there are a number of factors to take into consideration as regards decor, from the white goods and kitchen units to the colour of any soft furnishings.  There is also the kitchen worktop to consider.  Have a look at the range of materials available, from hard wood to granite and everywhere in between.  It is certainly a totally different prospect compared to years gone by when wood and laminates were the only kitchen worktop choices available. 

 

The types of kitchen worktops you select will depend upon the vision you have of the kitchen you would like for your home.  Here are some of the options you can choose:

 

WOOD

One of the most traditional of kitchen worktops, wood will enhance any kitchen.  It has natural anti-bacterial properties and will provide an attractive surface for a number of years.  With a selection of woods ranging from ash to the darkest, such as Wenge, there are wooden worktops to fit in with any kitchen design.

 

GRANITE
Granite has a number of features which makes it one of the most popular kitchen worktops today.  Its natural variations in colour and grain, combined with a natural shine make for an attractive surface which is durable and easy to maintain.  There are a number of colours to choose, ranging from white through to black.

 

MARBLE
Marble is another natural stone whose beauty is in the natural veining and colour changes which run through it.  Although marble is a porous stone which means that care should be taken in its selection, there are several colour variations available which makes marble a lovely addition to the design of any kitchen.

 

LIMESTONE
Another natural stone, limestone will make an attractive kitchen worktop.  However, as limestone is a soft stone which is extremely porous, care should be taken when deciding where limestone is to be used. 

 

QUARTZ
There are a few different types of quartz surface available now.  These surfaces are made up of over 90% quartz combined with resin to create a durable worktop in a vast range of colours, which will create a long lasting contemporary look in any kitchen. Take, for instance, Silestone.  Manufactured in many different colours, the range of Silestone on offer is expanded every year.   In fact, why stop at the kitchen, quartz is suitable for use anywhere in the home, even in the bathroom. 


CORIAN
Corian is a solid surface consisting of natural materials and acrylic polymers, manufactured by DuPont.  It is hardwearing, hygienic and comes in many colours.  Corian is another product which can be used anywhere in the home, either as Kitchen Worktops or Bathroom Worktops.

 

So, when you ask yourself if your kitchen was a colour what would it be, with the choices available, it could be a veritable rainbow to suit every mood.
